A Tiger in the House Introduction

The author’s grandfather finds a tiny tiger-cub in the forest. He brings him home and grandmother calls him Timothy and brings him up. Timothy is very friendly and plays with other pets and children. As Timothy grows up, he becomes somewhat dangerous. So grandfather takes him to Lucknow Zoo. Six months later, grandfather pays Timothy a visit. He strokes and tickles a tiger thinking him to be Timothy. Grandfather is shocked to know that Timothy had died two months ago.

दादा जी को बाघ का एक बच्चा जंगल में मिलता है और उसे घर ले आते हैं।
दादी जी उसे टिमॉथी पुकारती हैं और एक मानव के बच्चे की तरह बड़ा करती हैं।
टिमॉथी विनोदप्रिय और बहुत शरारती है। टोटो, पिल्ला और घर के दूसरे सदस्य उसके साथी हैं।

1 बाघ के बच्चे टिमॉथी, को दादा जी ने देहरा के पास तराई के जंगल में ढूँढा था। एक दिन, जब दादा जी जंगल के रास्ते से, अपने समूह के बाकी लोगों से कुछ दूरी पर चल रहे थे तो उन्हें अठारह इंच लम्बा बाघ का एक बच्चा मिला, जो एक बरगद की उलझी हुई जड़ों के बीच में छुपा था। दादा जी उसे उठाकर घर ले आए। उस समूह में वह अकेले सदस्य थे जिन्होंने किसी शिकार को जीवित या मरा हुआ पकड़ने में विशिष्टता पाई थी।

अपने लिए और टिमॉथी के लिए प्रथम श्रेणी का डिब्बा आरक्षित करवाकर-कोई भी उनके साथ इसे बाँटने को तैयार नहीं था-दादा जी उसे लखनऊ ले गए जहाँ चिड़ियाघर के अधिकारी एक अच्छे पले हुए और सभ्य बाघ को पाकर बहुत प्रसन्न हुए। लगभग छः महीनों के पश्चात जब मेरे दादा-दादी लखनऊ में अपने रिश्तेदारों से मिलने गए तो दादा जी ने चिड़ियाघर जाकर यह देखना चाहा कि टिमॉथी का क्या हाल-चाल है। मैं उनका साथ देने को वहाँ नहीं था पर देहरा वापिस पहुँचकर मैंने सब सुना।
